New in August to Ikea is the Vadholma kitchen storage series—which includes a handsome butcher-block kitchen island with hanging rack. It’s inspired by the classic storage methods found in old-fashioned bakeries and butcher shops. Our assessment: We approve. Have a look.

The Rack for Kitchen Island, made of powder-coated steel, is sold separately and comes with 10 utensil hooks; $99. Above: The butcher block countertop is actually engineered wood that features a layer of solid oak on top of particle board—which, according to Ikea, makes it more durable.
