I recently wrote about my obsession with John Kandell’s Pilaster Shelf, which was released in 1989. (See Editors’ Picks: 11 Scandi Storage Must-Haves.) Its spine design offered a new way to store one’s books and inspired countless imitators. Most have been stand-alone floor models, but I recently found a version that is meant to be mounted to the wall, just like the original.
High
Above: Grouped together, the Pilaster Shelves take on a different look; €684 to €960 at Scandinavia Design House, depending on the finish. Above: The Pilaster Shelf is available in oak or birch, different stains, and different colors at Sweden’s Sköna Rum.
Low
Above: We first came across the Takara Column Shelf (by Design Ideas, Ltd.) at Kaufman Mercantile. It’s no longer carried there, but good news, Urban Outfitters does now; $119. More on book storage here:
