We asked our editors to choose their favorite stylish Scandi storage tools (beyond Ikea)—and they delivered with a collection of proven classics they have in their own homes as well as new finds they can’t wait to get their hands on. Here, their 11 favorites.
Above: Margot loves her Enamel Tray by Hay; $25. “Hay’s designs are clean-lined and practical but have a joie de vivre about them, perhaps because they don’t shy from color,” she says of the Danish design firm. She uses hers on her desk to rest her water bottle and phone.
The Muuto Wall Dots
Above: The Muuto Wall Dots came out in 2007; Julie wrote about them in 2009; and today, in 2018, they’re still going strong; $150 for a set of five, in natural, at Design Within Reach.
Above: Every time I see the Aalto Wall Shelf 112B (like here and here), I have to stop and admire its quiet good looks. The birch lacquered shelf (pictured) is $381 at Finnish Design Shop.
The Hay Bits and Bobs Containers
Above: Both Margot and Alexa nominated Hay’s glass Bits & Bobs containers. The elegant pieces come in multiple sizes and are perfect for storing little items (Alexa keeps paper clips in one and hair elastics in another); from $10 at Hay. The MoMA Design Store also stocks them.
The Skagerak Drying Rack
Above: Annie has written about Skagerak’s designs before (see here). She’s especially taken with the Danish company’s oak Dryp Clothes Drying Rack; $325 at Danish Design Store.
The Korbo Wire Basket
Above: Another recommended storage product from Remodelista: The Organized Home, Korbo’s wire baskets are durable and handsome. The Korbo Classic 65 Wire Basket, shown, is $179 at Rejuvenation.
The Pilaster Shelf by John Kandell
Above: I have absolutely no need for more book storage, but I can’t help coveting John Kandell’s simply designed Pilaster Shelf; the lacquered birch is €684 at Scandinavia Design.
The String Wall Shelving
Above: Meredith is excited to learn that Design Within Reach recently started stocking one of her favorite shelving systems, Sweden’s iconic String Wall Shelving. Can’t get enough of Scandi style? Neither can we:
