A quick poll of our editors revealed that those of us lucky enough to have access to an attic storage space have filled it with unattractive plastic storage bins. We know we can do better, but how? The answer: cardboard document boxes. Don’t let the name fool you; they’re true multitaskers and fit our requirements—sturdy, stackable, inexpensive, easy to move around, and much nicer-looking than their plastic counterparts. Here are five favorite options; bookmark this for storing your seasonal and holiday decor.
Above: We like Ikea’s streamlined, matte black take on the classic document box with their Tjena series; $3.99. Above: The Container Store’s Best Box stores flat when not in use, and is compatible with their Large and Small box dividers for further organization; $3.99. Above: The Lancaster Packaging File Storage Box has a hinged lid. It’s $3.59 at Staples. Above: We were pleased to find the classic Bankers Box in a minimalist black stripe pattern. A pack of 4 is $22.25 on Amazon. Above: Muji’s addition to the list, their Cardboard Box with Lid, is taller and slimmer than the other options, and they advertise that it can be used both vertically and horizontally; $14.50.
