Remodelista Reconnaissance: A Petite Folding Towel Rack for the Bathside

Hotel Wanas in Sweden Crop Cover Image

A few weeks back, a reader wrote to us on Instagram with a query: Where to find a folding towel rack like the one glimpsed in a pink-tiled bath at Wanås Hotel in Sweden? It sent us on a quest.

Here’s what we found.

The Sighting

Today, we’re turning our attention to the room that often gets overlooked day-to-day: the guest bed and bath.
Above: The towel rack in question, as seen in our post An Architect’s Estate, Open for Business: Wanås Hotel in Skåne, Sweden, has clean lines and collapses away when not in use. It’s the kind of thing we figured would be simple to source, but the more we started to dig, the more we came up short. Accordion drying rack? No. Shaker clothes horse? Close, but too tall—this one is only half-scale. Photograph by Magnus Mårdinger, courtesy of Wanås Hotel.

The Source

I Fuji Medium Towel Rack from March
Above: That is, until we happened to spot a new collection by the Japanese maker Masashi Ifuji at March. Behold, the Ifuji Towel Rack, handmade in Japan of white oak “using the original Shaker templates and traditional techniques.” Alas, the demi-height Medium rack (shown here) is currently sold out; we hope they restock. The Large size is still available.
