New from Ikea (and so clever we’re surprised the company hadn’t thought of this before): the
Lurvig collection of good-looking, affordable products for pets. (“Lurvig” means “shaggy” in Swedish.) Offerings for cats include a scratching post that wraps around a table leg, a washable litter pan, and a sleeping pod (with scratching surface) on legs. Let’s take a closer look at the offerings.
(If you’re a canine fan instead, stay tuned for our post on dog products, launching next week.)

Above: The signature piece in the cat collection is the Cat House on Legs ($54.98 as shown, and $49.99 without the cushion). The front has a sisal-blend scratching pad for cats to work their claws, and the piece can be used as a nightstand or side table, as shown. Above: The cat house is versatile: If you discard the legs, the painted fiberboard box can be mounted directly on the wall or tucked inside Ikea’s separate Kallax system of square shelving units. Above: The Lurvig Scratching Mat wraps around any table leg and secures with black straps, turning the dining table into an instant scratching post; $5.99. Above: A black Cat House With Pad ($10.98) unit slides inside any part of Ikea’s Kallax square shelving system. Above: The Lurvig Litter Tray ($4.99) doubles as both a litter box and a cat bed (but not at the same time). The high sides of the tray help keep litter from escaping when it’s used as a toilet. But add a Lurvig Cushion ($7.99) and the tray becomes a washable bed for cats or dogs. Above: The Pet Travel Bag is suitable for both cats and small dogs; it folds flat for storage, has windows on both the top and ends, and both ends open completely for easy retrieval of your pet; $24.99. Above: The Lurvig Cat Bed with Pad can be configured three different ways, depending on your cat’s preference: as a complete “house” with a small opening, as a four-sided bed with low walls, or as a nook with high back, as shown; $24.98.
