The Cull: 10 Best Household Essentials from Zara Home

Ikea is still the standard-bearer when it comes to churning out desirable designs at low prices, but Spanish brand Zara Home, which launched in 2003 (in 2012 here in the US), is hot on its tail. We recently took a closer look at its website after learning of food blogger Mimi Thorisson’s collaboration with the company (see In the French Kitchen with Mimi Thorisson: A New Collection from Zara Home), and found a host of well-designed storage and organization tools for the home, all at affordable prices. Here are 10 favorites:

Above: The Woven Basket (8.7 inches across) and the larger Basket with Handle (15.4 inches across) offer a welcome pop of color; $17.90 and $39.90.
Above: The Stainless Steel Cruet and the Borosilicate Glass Cruet are intended for holding oil, vinegar, or both, but we think they’d also make great dish soap dispensers; $19.90 and $17.90.
Above: We love the rustic appeal of the Hermetically Sealed Earthenware Jar and Earthenware Pitcher; $29.90 and $39.90.
Above: The Floral Tray, available in yellow or green, works as a perfect catch-all landing spot in any room of the house; $35.90.
Above: Zara’s enameled bathroom set includes a tumbler, soap dish, and lidded containers in two sizes, all of which can be purchased separately. Both the Enameled Tumbler and the Enameled Soap Dish are $17.90 each.
Above: The flatness of this 20.9-inch-wide Round Basket with Handles is what makes it so appealing; $39.90.
Above: The frayed edges elevate the Reversible Bath Mat, available in yellow and white; $59.90.
Above: The Raffia Trivet is $35.90 and measures almost 8 inches across.
Above: The Wooden Boxes with Raised Design are larger than they appear; the smaller size has a diameter of 5.5 inches and the larger size, a diameter of 6.3 inches; $49.90 and $69.90.
Above: Part of Thorrison’s collection for Zara Home, the Kitchen Trash Can is as pretty as trash cans get; $99.90. (It reminds of this one: Design Sleuth: Gorgeous Garbage, A Pedal Bin from the UK.)
