When Food52 set out to create the best cutting board ever, they did what any modern, tech-savvy company would do: They crowdsourced for ideas. They asked their followers what their dream cutting board looked and felt like, what sorts of features it would have, and what kind of material it would be made of. More than 10,000 responses later, they had an answer—and that very clever answer hit their online store this week.

Above: In many ways, the Five Two Double-Sided Cutting Board looks like a standard cutting board. It’s made in Vermont of durable solid American maple and has a generous size (18 by 13 inches). What makes it different is that it’s designed to be multipurpose. Above: One side is meant for carving meats. The number one request from Food52 followers was an extra-deep juice groove. Food52 accommodated that request—and then some: The design team added a well in one corner for easy pouring. Above: The other side can be used either as a chopping board or as a charcuterie board. Above: And here’s where the clever feature comes in. Cognizant of the fact that many cooks use their phones as recipe books, the team added a groove to hold and display a smart phone. Genius!
