Steal This Look: DIY Entryway with Hairpin Leg Bench

Kriselkeeper Blogspot Bench with Hairpin Legs

Angela Ferdig of Kriselkeeper recently posted on her DIY entryway bench project, which was “inspired by the Nakashima table in Steal This Look: Julianne Moore’s West Village Living Room on Remodelista,” she says. “My much less pricey DIY bench, which consists of a piece of reclaimed wood and four hairpin legs, cost a total of $109.” Read more about the project on The Stir at Cafe Mom; recreate the look with the following elements.

Above: Angela used four custom-fabricated brushed-stainless 12-Inch Hairpin Legs ($16 per leg) from Ian Maclean, an Ohio-based metal worker, for her bench (also see Hardware: Hairpin Legs from Ian Maclean).

Above: For the top, Angela sourced a plank of reclaimed wood from Reclaimed Wood Products in Los Angeles.

Above: Perfect for holding shoes and odds and ends, the Byholma Basket measures 22 by 14.5 inches; $15.99 at Ikea.

Above: West Elm’s Metal Floor Mirror features a brushed nickel frame and measures 72 inches wide (can be hung horizontally); $299.

Above: Sugatsune Stainless Steel Coat Hook; $6.75 each at Alema Hardware.

Above: The ultimate in minimalist elegance comes at a price: the Arne Jacobsen–designed Vola Towel Hooks are well suited for coats, bags, and hats; $166.22 per pack of four at Designer Plumbing.

Above: Perfect for an entryway: the Denim Color Cotton Rag Rug; $14.99 for a 2-by-3-foot size at Urban Outfitters. For a larger entryway rug, consider Land of Nod’s True Blue Rag Rug made of 100 percent recycled denim; $49 to $249, depending on size.
