My husband’s hand was tingling. The physical therapist said he had a pinched nerve in his neck. After the appointment, he came home beaming.

“What is there to be happy about?” I asked suspiciously.

“He told me I’m not allowed to carry groceries home from the market,” he said.

It was true, I had been loading him down like a pack mule for the three-block walk home. Some days he staggered (Thanksgiving turkey and wine for 11 guests).
