In Praise of the Cuban Mop (the Eco-Friendly Swiffer)

Though Swiffers are not great looking, they really are handy for the dust bunnies under the bed. But for years, we've worried about the environmental impact of all those disposable dusters. Enter the genius Cuban mop, used widely throughout Latin America and parts of Europe as both a wet and dry mop. Here are three things we love and appreciate about this simple, effective tool:

Cuban mops are made from biodegradable, natural wood and work with reusable cloths.

1. It's eco-friendly.

When the cloth is soiled, simply throw it into the washing machine.

Cuban mops can be used either wet or dry, works with any cleaning cloth, and can be used for other cleaning projects, like dusting or polishing furniture.

2. It's versatile.

And it's really effective at cleaning hard-to-reach places, like under the bed.

While performance is key with cleaning products, there’s no doubt that natural, nice-looking tools make chores more enjoyable.

3. It's attractive.

(We used a peg board to create a cleaning station, complete with a Cuban mop and its accoutrements.)
